“Q&A” with Allison Micelli

The TTF caught up with advertising professional, spin instructor & expert yogi, Allison Miceli.

What pushed you into triathlons?

Growing up I was quite active in swimming and cycling, I had always been interested in the idea of triathlons but I didn’t run. When I relocated to Toronto in May 2014 I joined a running group and by the end of the summer I was signed up for my first triathlon!

What advice would you give to a first time triathlete racing TTF?

My advice for a first time triathlete racing TTF would be to have fun! Your first triathlon will be an experience, there are a lot of firsts with your first race – group swim, setting up a transition zone, transitioning, find your groove as you switch from one event to the next, don’t let it overwhelm you, take it all in and enjoy every moment. The TTF is a great race for a first time triathlete, the Toronto triathlon community is very supportive, lots of crews and locals come out to cheer!

What’s your favourite post-race meal?

It’s a toss-up between an epic brunch spread or a great burger, but that’s a tough call…

What are your goals for this year’s TTF?

My goal for this year’s TTF is to race the Olympic Distance for the very first time. Much like last year I want to enjoy every moment of the race – from the views of the city while I’m on my bike, to the lakeside run along the Martin Goodman Trail and of course the amazing triathlete community in Toronto who will be cheering one another on throughout the day!

What or who inspires you?

I am inspired by everyone who I run and sweat alongside, I am in awe of everyone and where they are in their journey as they chase their own goals. The people in my run family both locally in Tribe Fitness + Toronto and abroad never cease to amaze me in what they can accomplish when they make the commitment to themselves and put their mind to it. Being a part of a community of hardworking, passionate people who support one another both on and off the pavement inspires me to always continue to be a better version of me and motivates me to chase down my next finish line no matter how impossible it may seem.
