RUN X RACE DAY FLOW – SELECT DETAILS

I. Arriving On Venue At Exhibition Place (Bandshell Park)

  • Approximately 1 week before the event, you will receive an email providing an arrival time likely 25 to 30 minutes before the specific wave time you choose during the registration process.

  • This is when you should arrive on venue. At this specific time, you will be allowed into the designated staging area for Run X.

  • Please remember to have your race bib on.

  • If you arrive prior to this provided time, please stay in an area where you can safely maintain physical distance or, if applicable, in your vehicle. until it is time to move in to the staging area.

  • (Athletes will have picked up their race bibs from The Runners Shop during race week. This community store, in the Annex neighbourhood, is centrally located - 374 Bloor Street West - to facilitate a convenient race bib pickup process. More details to come as the event gets closer.)

II. Admittance to the Staging Area

  • The staging area will be for participants only. Only athletes with race bibs will be permitted into this area.

  • There will only be approximately 75 athletes per wave, so there will be an abundance of room to stay physically distanced.

  • We will have music to keep you company before your wave starts – this should help you get into the zone!

  • There will be washrooms in the staging area.

  • Please note that there will be no baggage check at this event.

  • Current Public Health guidelines require masks be worn and physical distancing maintained in the staging area. We will review these requirements closer to race day.

III. Athletes Escorted to Start Area

  • A race official, supported through clear communications from our race announcer, will guide athletes to the start line (from the staging area) to begin your race.

  • Please listen carefully to the instructions provided by the Run X team on race day to ensure everyone remains safe and is able to enjoy themselves.

  • Indeed running together again is a moment to celebrate but please remember that others may have different levels of comfort than you in the current environment.

IV. Race Wave, Time Trial Start

  • Run X will feature a time trial start with multiple waves over the course of the entire race day.

  • Officials and announcers will ensure that this process is well communicated and staged efficiently, so there is no need to worry if you’ve never participated in an event featuring a time trial start. It is simple and straight forward.

  • There will be water in the start area but you are encouraged to bring your own hydration if that makes you more comfortable.

V. The Finish Line

  • Once you cross the finish line, please keep moving even as you celebrate your achievement.

  • Post race, you will receive a finisher’s bag that will include water, snacks as well as your Run X branded face mask and Run X branded medal.

  • If you require it, a medical team will be on hand to provide any support you might need.

  • Please continue through the finish chute and avoid gathering in and around the finish area.

VI. Post Race

  • Unfortunately Run X is not permitted to offer any post race activities this year.

  • We look forward to adding beer gardens and similar fun and interactive offerings in the future.

RUN X Frequently asked questions

OLYMPIC

SPRINT

TRY - A - TRI

ACCOMODATION

WATER QUALITY

What is the race format?

Run X is a 5k that features 4 laps on Exhibition Place grounds. There will be multiple waves and each wave will have space for approximately 75 athletes. Each wave will feature a time trial start. These features will help ensure we stay onside provincially mandated congregation limits as well as on point with respect to other health and safety protocols.

Where is the start line?

The start line for Run X will be clearly marked with signage and will be visible when athletes arrive to the Bandshell Park area on Exhibition Place grounds. It is also marked on the route map that is posted on the Run X website. Athletes will be led to the start line by our officials after going through the staging area. The race announcer will message clearly and loudly to assist in this process.

Will there be water on course?

There will be no water on course. There will be water post race just beyond the finish line chute. Athletes are encouraged to bring their own hydration if you think you require it on course.

Where is the finish line?

The finish line for Run X will be clearly marked with signage and will be visible when athletes arrive to the Bandshell Park area on Exhibition Place grounds. In other words, it is visible from the start line and is also marked on the route map that is posted on the Run X website. Athletes will be asked to move on as swiftly as is practicable once they have crossed the finish line and have picked up their finisher bag (snacks, water, branded mask and branded medal).

Is there food and water at the finish line?

All athletes will pick up a finisher bag once they cross the finish line. In the bag, there will be light snacks and water in addition to branded race product (medal and mask). The bags will be sealed to maximize hygiene and safety. We look forward to offering more elaborate food and drink options for future Run X races when they are allowed.

Are there washrooms at the start line?

There will be washrooms at the start line, in the staging area and in the finish line area.

Is there a course time limit for this race?

Run X is meant to be a fun celebration marking the return of in person racing in Toronto. We expect all levels of runners and all are more than welcome to join. We are hopeful that all participants are capable of a 40 minute 5k. We may respectfully ask athletes who are still running after 45 minutes to move off of the course depending on the density of the next wave.

Are athletes required to be vaccinated against Covid-19 in order to participate?

We are continuing to speak with the City of Toronto and Toronto Public Health, among others, to determine what will be required to safely host an in person event.

If I am experiencing Covid-19 symptoms on race day, will I be entitled to a refund for not attending?

Anyone experiencing Covid-19 symptoms should stay at home on race day. Run X will make an exception to our traditional no refund policy. If this applies to you, please email us at info@runxtoronto.com

Will there be baggage check on race day?

Please note that given the current conditions, there will be no baggage check at Run X.

What time should I show up on venue on race day?

Approximately 1 week before the event, you will receive an email providing an arrival time likely 25 to 30 minutes before the specific wave time you choose during the registration process. This is when you should arrive on venue. At this specific time, you will be allowed into the designated staging area for Run X. If you arrive prior to this provided time, please stay in your vehicle or in an area where you can safely maintain physical distance until it is time to move in to the staging area.

What if I want to run with my friend at this event?

If you’d like to participate in this event with someone else, please make sure to register for the same wave start time. You will be able to choose this during the online registration process.

Will we have to wear masks in the start and finish areas?

Public health guidelines will govern this issue. Prevailing protocols currently require that masks be worn and physical distancing maintained (in the start and finish areas). These requirements will be reviewed closer to the event date.
